| The Scottish second city of Glasgow had a large number of greyhound tracks in the past with one of the longest lasting being at Mount Vernon which was situated at 4° 7' W 55° 50' N. The track was built on the site of a former colliery, the Daldowie Colliery and first opened for business on 10th October 1927. This made it one of the earliest in the country to become operational. The track had a circumference of almost 400 yards and ran sprints over 260 yards, standard races over 450 yards, distance races over 620 yards and extended races over 815 yards. It was a very well supported track, often commanding crowds in their thousands, with the principal races being the Mount Vernon Derby and the Mount Vernon St Leger. |
